Harris Rebar
Flowood, MS
The new 70,000-square-foot industrial warehouse production facility consists of a pre-engineered metal building supporting three overhead cranes servicing the facility. The poor soil conditions of the site and the stringent settlement tolerances of the cranes necessitated a deep foundation solution for support of the pre-engineered metal building columns. Reinforced concrete pile caps supported on helical piles are utilized to meet this challenge. The floor slab is constructed of a heavily-reinforced stiffened concrete slab-on-grade. The particularly robust floor slab design on this project was required due to the heavy loads imposed by rebar bundle storage racks and industrial machinery in conjunction with the poor site soils.
Smithers Engineers also performed civil engineering services for the approximately 25-acre site. Civil engineering services included site layout, erosion control, grading and drainage, and utility design. In addition to the building, the site included an entry drive, an expansive laydown yard, and two detention ponds.
