Madison City Hall Renovations
Madison, MS
The original Madison-Ridgeland Public School building, built in 1910, was renovated to become the new Madison City Hall. This existing two-story building will house office spaces for city departments, conference/meeting rooms, support spaces, and a second-floor auditorium space.
The original building structure consists of wood floor and roof framing supported by interior wood stud walls and multi-wythe brick walls around the exterior of the building. Major structural components of the project included adding an elevator shaft inside the existing building, adding new door openings in the existing load-bearing wood stud walls, and widening the stage proscenium opening at the second-floor auditorium. Strengthening of the existing wood floor framing was provided under new walls. During construction, existing conditions were revealed which dictated strengthening of the existing floor structure in other select areas of the building.
